If you are wanting to rehome a cat through Posh Puss Rescue please read the testimonials from people who have trusted us with their animals as well as the rehomers. The poshpussphotos page is frequently updated with photos of our resident cats and updates from those rehomed. As you can see the cats live a relaxed life in a family home and are not penned. To take in a cat we ask for a minimum £35 donation. This figure is arrived at as it is ten pounds less than the cost of euthenasia and so we can sometimes use this as a bargaining tool for someone who would otherwise put their cat to sleep. Due to escalating costs we are only able to take very old cats or cats with chronic health problems if they are sponsored. All monies go to the care of the felines themselves . If you think you would like us to take in your cat please bear these points in mind:
1) We are based in Porthleven, Cornwall. If you cannot get a cat to us then please do not make an arrangement to bring it. In exceptional circumstances we can sometimes help with voluntary transport but this is not the rule of thumb.
2) The taking in of a cat will involve some discussion of why the cat needs to be rehomed. We came into existence to help cats in crisis. Spaces are few so if you are not in crisis we may not be able to take in your cat.
3) An emailed photograph of the cat/s concerned will be required as well as details of the cat's daily routine and character.
4) We are happy to keep in touch with you about the progress of your cat whilst here and following rehome as a gesture of goodwill. We will normally do this by email but always ring you following the cat's first overnight.
5) We cannot take in or rehome your cat until you have signed a Tranfer of Ownership form
6) We need to know as much information as possible about the medical and behavioural history of your cat
7) Cats that go for rehoming are carefully matched with their new home environments. Home checks are carried out and contracts are signable. New owners contract to keep in touch about the progress of the cat. In the unlikely event rehomers can no longer care for the cat they contract to return it here. That way the cat's welfare is secured for life.
8) We are happy to take cats with physical disabilities
9)There is a FAQ page - FAQs with Wellycon - please check it out - if there are any other questions you would like answered please just ask
10) If you use Posh Puss to home your cat we will at a subsequent date ask you for a testimonial which we can put on the site with all the others.
Posh Puss Rescue was started in order to help cats and people in crisis positions with the added benefit of informing exowners of the progress of their animal to help them cope with feelings of loss. Over the last year I have taken in cats that are in positions other than crisis and spent many hours supporting ex owners as testimonials will indicate. However, I have increasingly been approached by people who have asked for a space for a cat and then backed out at the last minute or failed to turn up or explain why, thus, not only wasting my time but often resulting in the turning away of cats in genuine crisis who would have turned up and benefitted from those spaces. This has now resulted in the following changes:
We will now only accept cats in purely crisis positions.
Cats will only be accepted by the owners and not from a representative other than in cases of bereavement, terminal illness, hospitalisation etc.
The £35 requested donation to take in a cat must be made when a place is offered. If you fail to turn up the donation is not refundable.
Only fully innoculated cats will be accepted (with the exception of strays). If your cat is not innoculated you are responsible for the cost of those innoculations.
We will not tolerate time wasters.
If you have a cat in a crisis position such as the owner terminally ill or passed away and nowhere to place the cat please contact me by telephone 01326 560536 and I will do what I can to help you urgently. If possible when you bring the cat try to get hold of any paperwork pertaining to it such as veterinary records, particularly innoculation records or at the very least the name of the vet with whom the cat is registered.
If you want to rehome a cat but it is not urgent please email me with details and send a photo of the cat to
jan@poshpussrescue.org I will get back to you the same day.
Please remember that your cat is not the only cat. Failure in communication means that needy cats can be potentially turned away at a time when many rescues are full and already have waiting lists. Posh Puss acts in a charitable way to provide help where it is needed. Please do not take our organisation for granted.
