Meet Missy Moo as she is now called - new start, new name for this girl who arrived here on the evening of eleventh of March, severely frightened and emaciated with a past of cruel treatment including kicking and starvation I would like to thank Richard and Connie for intervening on this dog's behalf and for bringing her here which undoubtedly has saved her life.

Missy on arrival, shaking with fear and clearly emaciated

profile showing state of emaciation. This dog was ravenous.

Showing state of overgrown nails.

A nice meal and a lot of love shows Missy (as I have just renamed her) already with lifted spirits.

Missy can hardly believe that she is being shown kindness.

This is an English Bull Terrier cross Stafford of approximately seven years and yet looks like a tiny pup. How could anyone have let this poor dog get into this condition?

Missy being tucked up for a rest. I am having to sleep downstairs with Missy to let her out for the inevitable toiletting breaks until she gets over her diarrhoea. She is also glad of the love and companionship. This girl needs a lot of loving and nurturing to make up for her very sad past.
March 12th Missy had a little sniff around the woodlands today but I forgot the camera! She is having meals little and very often and her diarrhoea is improving. She is amazingly already growing trusting of me but can be a little growly with the other dogs which we have to work on.
March 13th. Missy is gaining in confidence and photos will be following but today has been a very busy time. Missy has had a wonderful day as she has gone for a walk with my bully befriender volunteer Sofia and her boyfriend. What's more they have so kindly donated a thermal coat for her to wear on walkies and some dog treats.
The `How to Write a Novel` workshop run and donated by the lovely Heidi Stephenson today at the Atlantic Inn, Porthleven raised two hundred and twenty pounds. Photos of Missy were shown and funds from this workshop will be largely put to the rehabilitation of this little bitch who will incur veterinary costs and specialist weight gaining food bills. Any donations of food for Missy will be greatly appreciated. See contact page
March 14th Missy has made brilliant progress and has stopped growling at the other dogs which was fear aggression. She is now socialising well with the others which is great as I don't want her to get separation anxiety if I am out of the room. She has had a woodland walk today with Ellie, an English Bull Terrier here and enjoyed it.
She has eaten three big meals as well as biscuit treats and a bone and no diarrhoea so this means she will start to build weight. I am so pleased.

Missy in her thermal coat from bully walker volunteer Sofia

Missy is obviously unused to walks and does not seem to know how to play. She enjoys sniffing around.

I cannot but compare Missy's sad little face with the happy face of Ellie

Missy will have to learm to play and have fun

Safely back home and on her armchair again. Must be time for dinneI am sure Missy is already beginning to look slightly less `ribby`.
15th Missy slept without me for the first time with just Betty Boops for company.
She just asked to go out once in the night and then settled again easily.
Missy is socialising further with the rescued bullies Today I took her to the vet for a
weigh in for worming purposes. She weighed in at 15.8 and has obviously put on weight.
She behaved impeccably at the vets and was most relaxed, sitting in a frog dog
position. After this she joined me in some fish and chips which she thorougly enjoyed!

Digger, front left is also an English Bull cross Staffy of seven years.
Digger weights in at some 34.5k

Hopefully Missy will learn to run and play from watching the other rescued bullies have fun and frolics.

Right now just walking and sniffing are a new experience for her it seems

Today is the last day here for Missy's former pal Ellie so tonight Missy must pal up with a new friend.

On the bed with Betty Boops seems like a good proposition

But Missy is not too certain about Tamara's enthusiastic bid for friendship

A little too much too soon perhaps

so is it to be dog basket?

or floor cushion?

Missy likes the floor cushions and begins to wash her paws. Manicure tomorrow I think.

Missie settles for the 4th night. Things are looking much better for Missy.
March 18th: Missy has been continuing to make fantastic progress. She has been for beach walks and today she had her first little joyous `run` in the woods as opposed to merely walking and sniffing. I continue to concentrate on building her up with high protein food and she is having more then her fair share of cheese which will certainly pile on the pounds. Exercise is beginning to have some positive effects on her muscle building. In Jo Brand style I intend to `garnish with a large pork pie` to get this girl into a true stafford shape as quickly as possible. She needs a safe and secure home with a trustworthy and loving owner. If you are following Missy's story and would be interested in offering her such a home when she is ready to go please contact me for a homecheck at jan@poshpussrescue.org
More photos and news of Missy will follow tomorrow.

Today Missy has been here for seven days

Missy was taken to the vet to be weighed again today and she is now 16.6

As you can see Missy just loves a juicy bone
Sunday: Missy would like to say a big thank you to Sofia for taking her for a very long walkies .
And then:
Missy would like to say a very big thankyou to Woof Beginnings for sending her ten pounds for treats!
(namely more CHEESE)
Let's hope it helps to bring out a big cheesy grin on her sweet little face.

Well, how about that????

Yes, definitely becoming more relaxed and slightly frivolous

and constantly learning from her two mentors: Louis and Betty

Weigh in again tomorrow. Let's see if this cheese thing is working. Nighty night.
Thursday the whatever: Missy went in for her weigh in again today and she is now 17.5.
IN THE EVENT THAT NO SUITABLE HOME OFFERS COME FORWARD FOR MISSY, MISSY WILL BE LOOKING FOR SPONSORS SO SHE CAN LIVE OUT THE REST OF HER LIFE HERE WHERE SHE IS SAFE AND HAPPY. IF YOU CAN HELP MISSY BY SPONSORING HER PER MONTH PLEASE CONTACT ME AT jan@poshpussrescue.org thank you

1st April sees Missy pictured with her pals Hoover, Buster and Betty Boops.
Missy continues to do well and put on weight. She is enjoying a lot of exercise and her muscles are developing as a result. Missy gets on well with the other dogs and has raised expectations of life. She now expects two good meals a day as well as treats in between, loves it when I come back from shopping as she knows she is going to get something nice, and waits excitedly for her walk just like the other bullies. I would still like to see her put on a little more weight and become a bit more smiley. Perhaps a doggy Easter Egg or two will do the trick!
GOOD FRIDAY AND I AM DETERMINED TO GET A SMILE ON THIS GIRL'S FACE TODAY. MORNING WALKIES PHOTOS BELOW WITH DAISY LOU, ONE OF MY ENGLISH BULL TERRIERS:

play commences

lots of running

`followed by essential rolling

Beached whale springs to mind!

Missy thinks it's fun

Note the improved physique!

AND FINALLY - THERE'S THE SMILE. I KNEW THERE WAS ONE IN THERE SOMEWHERE!
Happy Easter Everyone

Missy Moo. Easter Monday.
April 17th sees Missy Moo's first trip to the rockpools at Porthleven

Daisy Lou testing the water with her paw: `Come on Missy, it's not cold`

What a trickster!

But anyway Missy seems to quite like it

and also enjoys a spot of rock climbing with Patches Boxer

Missy has a second dip. She already looks much more confident.

A nice run with Digger, Freckles and Jasper completes Missy's fun day out.
I have not weighed Missy for a while as she now looks like a normal sized dog. Cheese and pork pie garnishes are no longer necessary
and Missy is enjoying a similar diet to the others. Five weeks have seen this dog transformed from a frightened and starving victim
to a happy and well socialised dog. Let's hope an enjoyable Summer by the sea will help to make up for all those bad times.
(in this photo with Missy are Digger (ex Many Tears Rescue - was taken in by them when owner threatened to shoot him), and two poundies saved by this rescue, Jasper and Freckles)

MISSY - JUNE 2010 - HAPPY AND LOVING LIFE
